historical dates and milestones ...
1960 - by end of 1960 a number of Bank Officials joined forces, shaping the then known "Malta Institute of Bank Officials", paving the way to fulfill key prerequisutes to become the official representatives of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (UK) and a local centre for banking training
1961 - the Malta Institute of Bank Officials is officially accepted as the local centre representative for the Chartered Institute of Bankers in London. Its operations were wound up and taken over by the newly formed "Malta Centre". Inauguration took place at the Exchange in Valletta on the 21st December 1961. 500 people were in attendance at the official opening ceremony and the address conveyed by the First President, Mr. L.E. Galea (1961 - 1972)
1965 - the Malta Centre took the first initaitives to provide local tuition and a banking course initially organised and held at MCAST
1979 - Malta Centre licensed by the Educational Authorities in terms of the Educational Act 1974 to run its own courses, making the Banking education the cornerstone of its existence.
1981 - The Malta Centre opened its own evening school and became an examining body, awarding the Certificate in Banking, which received official recognition by the Institute in London for direct entry to Stage 2
1989 - started the first vocational courses within Malta's education system leading to the "Certificate in Banking" delivered at the then Paolino Vassallo Upper Lyceum
1996 - the "Certificate in Banking" gets approved by the University of Malta senate to be an entry into the University degree course (plus an Intermediate Level in Mathematics)
1999 - the Committee proposes changes to the Malta Centre statue, giving it a higher status for a local training Institution. Approved by the 1999 General Meeting
2001 - rebranding of the Institute profile, from "Malta Centre to todays known Institute of Financial Services - Malta ("ifs Malta")
2009 - Strategic relationship with CLT International (UK). ifs Malta in conjunction with CLT, offers the first ever Diploma in Fund Administration in Malta.
2010 - strategic relationship with the ICA (International Compliance Association) & with First Finance - Training and Consulting

President
Elected to the Committee in 2002 and President since 2004. Chairs the Executive Committee and highly active on the Education and research sub-committee. Works at HSBC Bank Malta as Head of Commercial Centres and has been employed within the Banking sector for the past 25 years. interim he has undertaken a number of roles in various areas, particularly in credit.
Education Director
Elected to the Committee in 2000. Served as a Secretary and at present fulfilling the role of the Institute Education Director and acting as the CeFA co-ordinator and tutor. Presently he is a Head in Retail Network at Banif Bank. Previously he worked for 22 years at Bank of Valletta in a number of different roles including Branch Manager and Relationship Head at Corporate Banking.
Executive Member
Elected as Committee Member in 1983. Held posts of Education Director, Secretary and Vice President member of the Executive Committee. Employed at the Central Bank of Malta as Director of Resource Management responsible for Human Resources, Administration, Security and Information Systems.
Member
Elected to the Committee in 1996 and has occpuied the position of Education Director for a number of years. Examiner of the Managing People In Organisations module of the DipBFS awarded by the ifs Malta. He is ecmployed as a Senio Manager within the Human Resources Office of the Central Bank of Malta and employed with this institution since 1989.
Vice President
Elected to the Committee in 2003. Heads the PR & Marketing Unit and he is an examiner of the Institute, as well as actively involved in a number of Institute activities. he is Head of Strategic Planning at HSBC Bank Malta. He has been employed with the Bank for over 22 years. Undertaken a number of roles in various areas related to Marketing, Strategy and EU Affirs. Has been a published analyst in the financial press for a number of years.
Treasurer
Elected in the Committee in 2004. Presently acting as Treasurer to the Committee. Employed as a Manager on Commercial Banking for HSBC Bank Malta.
Head of Activities
Elected in the Committee in 2003. Responsible for the organisation of the Institute's activities and is a member of the Research sub-committee. Works for Bank of Valletta within the CEO's office. Employed with the Bank for 16 years, whilst undertaking a number of roles in the Retail Network and Head Office Departments.
Secretary
Vice President
Elected to the Committee in 2001. Has over 33 years of experience within the Banking sector. Occupies the post of General Manager of Volksbank Malta Limited.
FCIB, MBA
Elected to the Committee in 1995. Served as Treasurer and Member of the Executive Committee. Works for Bank of Valletta as Head of Branch in Floriana and has been in the employment of the Bank for 30 years. Interim has undertaken a number of roles in various areas.

Active on the Education sub-committee and a long serving examiner of the Institute. Deputy Head of Securities Services at HSBC Bank Malta. Joined the Bank in 1978 and worked in a number of roles including Credit, Merchant Banking and Fund Management
Member
Elected to the Committee in 2006. Tutors students preparing for the Diploma and Foundation Degree. He is a Senior Manager on SMEs & EU Affairs with Bank of Valletta pls. He also represents Malta on the European Payments Council which is implementing the Single European Payments Area Project.
Member
Elected Committee Member since 2000, spent two years in the capacity of Secretary. She is an economist, working at the Central Bank of Malta. The main areas of interest being house prices, tourism and consumer/bodies perception surveys.

Elected Committee member and former Institute Treasurer. he is a Senior Vice president at Corporate Business at First International Merchant Bank (FimBank).
Assistant Secretary
Elected and long serving Committee Member. Has worked in the banking sector for a number of years, but now he has Retired.

training and administrative facilites
The Institute's premises accomodate 3 comfortable tuition classes, each spacious, well lit, fully airconditioned and equipped with all the requirements for delivering unmatched quality tuitions. Additional items include overhead projector, TV&Video, Whiteboard, wi-fi access up to 20Mb download and 1Mb upload, free tea & coffee services.
A wireless connection is available at the service of all students, free of charge, throughout the whole premises. Internet access is useful for presentations, reference to online material and assistance to tutors during the delivery of their tuitions. (20Mb Download and 1Mb Upload). Please ask at the administration office for key access.
Infocus projectors are available for effective delivery of tuitions, presentations, video conferencing and any other envisaged visual communication
ifs Malta holds a small but comprehensive library of textbooks, books and journals that the students can avail themselves of at the Institute's premises.
All classrooms are well equipped with whote boards, markers and dusters for use of lecturers and students during their classroom or workshop sessions.
An additional facility is the use of an audio conferencing telephone for clarity calls both locally and abroad.
